The system works with a PIC 16F877 (Microchip™) which manages the data (stream mpeg) between the hard disk and the decoder (MAS3507D and DAC 3550A) as well the display on an LCD. The system uses several types of buses : the ATA bus for the interface with the hard disc (norm ATA-ATAP14), the I2C bus for controlling all the chips, the USB connection to download new MP3 files and the RS232 bus as an option. The filing system is the FAT32 of Microsoft™, compatible with most operating systems.

This MP3 reader can store more than 500 hours of music thanks to a hard disc of a 30 GBytes capacity.
